The Hard Edges series is a flagship research programme exploring severe and multiple disadvantage (SMD) in the UK. Funded by the ,Ìý, and , this series examines how issues such as homelessness,Ìýsubstance misuse, and involvement in the criminal justice system overlap, compounding disadvantage for some of the most vulnerable populations.

Through extensive qualitative and quantitative research, the project provides insights into the experiences of individuals facing multiple layers of disadvantage. The research also evaluates the effectiveness of current support systems and provides recommendations for more integrated service models that can better address complex needs.
